HEATABLE WATER BOWLS
2 Heated 24 V drinking bowls – how do they work? Heating drinking water using drinking bowls is so easy! You only need at least one heatable water bowl, a temperature switch and a transformer (as 24-volt operation). Which transformer for how many bowls? Simple! If you only want to use one drinking bowl with 80 W of power, a 100 VA transformer will suffice. If you also want to connect a 24 V heating cable, simply add the power consumption (= wattage) of the cable and this gives you the minimum power required for the transformer. Do not measure the transformer’s power too precisely, so you will have a buffer for extensions. Connection diagram 1. Mains connection 230 V, separately fused 2. Heating outputHeating cable length € 22358 15 W 1,5 m 1/60 720 223581 30 W 3 m 1/40 720 The following table is a quick overview of cable lengths and cross-sections: Maximum cable length in metres for the following cable cross-sections and transmittable powers: Which cable should I use? If the 24 V supply has to cover a larger distance between the transformer and the heater or the heated water bowl, please pay attention to the cable cross-section, to prevent the risk of drops in voltages along the cable’s route. Calculation to ascertain the minimum cable cross-section: Power x cable length / 3200 W/m = cable cross-section (ACable) In the example above, a distance of 25 metres between the transformer and the heater and/or water bowl and a transmittable power of 292 watts would produce the following: (292 W x 25 m: 3200 W/m) mm² = 2.3 mm² In this case, use a cable with a cross-section of at least 2.3 mm² should be used. Therefore, you should select a cable with a cross section of 2.5 mm². Cable cross-section 100 Watt power to be transmitted 200 Watt power to be transmitted 300 Watt power to be transmitted 400 Watt power to be transmitted 1,5 mm² 48 m 24 m 16 m 12 m 2,5 mm² 80 m 40 m 27 m 20 m 4,0 mm² 128 m 64 m 43 m 32 m 6,0 mm² 192 m 96 m 64 m 48 m Frost protection heating pipe 24 V • for heating the spur line of waterers • a 24 V transformer is required for operation • Voltage: 24 V • IPX7 What should you consider when using plastic water pipes? Never install heating cables directly on plastic pipes. The plastic pipe must be completely pasted with an aluminium adhesive tape (item no. 222809) beforehand for better heat transfer. It is important that only plastic pipes that are suitable for hot water installations are used. Otherwise, damage to the pipeline and water leakage can occur. Should pipelines and heating cables be insulated? The pipeline and heating cable should be insulated with a heat-resistant insulation made from mineral wool or foam of max. 13 mm thickness in order to ensure efficient operation of the installation.
8 + Which transformer should be used? If you want to operate a water bowl with 80 watts of power (supplied), then a 100-watt transformer will suffice (item no. 223140). If you also want to connect a 24 V heating cable, simply add the current consumption (= wattage) of the cable. When selecting the transformer, plan for a power reserve of 15 % (factor 1.15). Please ensure you select the correct cable cross-section. If the cable cross-section selected is too small, it cannot transmit the full power and the water bowl system can freeze under certain circumstances despite heating. Selection of the required transformers: Calculation example for transformer: Number Water Bowls / Heating Cables 3 Water Bowl HP20 24 Volt (item no. 222055) 3 x 73 watts = 216 watts 2 Water Bowl H10 24 Volt (item no. 222005) 2 x 50 watts = 100 watts 2 Frost Protection Heating Cable - 24 Volt (item no. 223581) 2 x 30 watts = 60 watts Total power: = 376 watts Calculate the total power required with power reserve: 376 watts x 1.15 (+ 15 %) = 433 watts Transformator 230 V / 24 V • Converts the voltage from 230 Volt alternating current (AC) to a safe 24 Volt alternating current (AC) • Protection class IP44 - When the 230 Volt connection plug is connected to a suitable protective box: IP54 • Short-circuit and overload protection through easily replaceable microfuse in the output circuit • Integrated temperature limiter to protect against overheating • Fully encapsulated housing: best possible protection against moisture, mechanical and electronic loads • On the secondary side, the output cable is connected to the consumer in a terminal box (terminal box not included in the scope of delivery). • Depending on the design of the terminal box on the secondary side, up to IP67 is possible.
