LED lighting for stable and farmyard

5 High service life LED chips can achieve extremely long lifespans. Depending on the design and operating conditions, service lives of up to 100,000 hours are possible. Based on 8 hours’ operation per day, this equates to more than 30 years. This helps to reduce maintenance effort and the costs associated with replacing light sources. LEDs typically experience a gradual decline in luminous flux over time (degradation). The useful life is therefore often specified in terms of the remaining luminous flux. For example, the designation L70 means that 70 per cent of the original luminous flux is still achieved after the specified operating period. The service life of an LED depends, amongst other things, on the operating and ambient temperatures: effective heat dissipation and suitable operating conditions can help to slow down the ageing process. Up to 90 per cent lower electricity costs whilst maintaining the same light output Comparison of LED and halogen spotlights Example: Burning life 4 hours per day (1,460 hours per year) A 50-watt LED spotlight with 8,000 lumens produces a luminous flux comparable to that of a 500-watt halogen spotlight with 9,000 lumens – with a low power consumption of 90 per cent. Luminaire light current per spotlight annual electricity costs (based on € 0.35/kW) 500-Watt halogen spotlight (18 lm/W) 9000 lumens (500 watt x 18 lm/W) 255,50 € 50-Watt LED spotlight (160 lm/W) 8,000 lumens (50 Watt x 160 lm/W) 25,55 € Annual electricity cost savings: 229,95 € Examples LED chip up to 100.000 h Modern fluorescent lamp approx. 18.000 h Halogen lamp approx. 2.000 h Light bulb approx. 1.000 h The advantages at a glance LED technology in the stable pays off LEDs operate at a high level of effectiveness and are extremely efficient. Their luminous efficacy is thus especially high. The investment costs for new equipment or a conversion are currently still normally higher when compared to conventional lighting technology; however these costs will pay for themselves over a short amount of time due to the considerable savings in operating costs – when all is said and done, you will be saving real cash, day after day! LED lights with industrially manufactured LED chips have, for example, approx. a 5 x higher luminous efficacy than conventional halogen lights. Though it is true that modern discharge lamps (fluorescent lamps, metal halide lamps) also achieve high luminous efficacy; however, you have to take into account here that the light is given off in all directions and despite reflectors, a portion of that light is „lost.“ In contrast, LEDs emit light downward at a defined angle of, e.g. 120° – therefore, the light reaches where it is really needed. The capital costs of installing new equipment or retrofitting existing systems can be recouped quickly through savings in energy consumption and running costs. LED luminaires fitted with industrially manufactured high-performance LED chips, for example, have a luminous efficacy approx. five times higher than that of conventional halogen luminaires. It is true that modern gas-discharge lamps, such as fluorescent or metal-halide lamps, also achieve high luminous efficacy. However, it must be borne in mind, amongst other things, that these emit light in all directions and, despite the use of reflectors, some of the light may be lost within the luminaire. In contrast, LEDs emit light downwards at a defined angle of, for example, 120° – this means the light is directed more precisely onto the surfaces to be illuminated.
