55 1G 1G 1/2G 1/2G 1/2G Useful information about securing loads with lashing straps §§ 22 German road traffic regulations: The responsibility for securing loads lies only with the driver, but the loader and the vehicle’s owner may also be held responsible. A driver is obliged to refuse to drive if the load is not adequately secured! Seven golden rules for securing loads: 1. Choose a suitable vehicle 2. Do not exceed the total permitted weight and permitted axle loads and do not carry loads below the minimum axle load 3. Position the load’s centre of gravity on the longitudinal plane where possible and position it as low as possible 4. Secure the load against slipping, rolling or falling 5. Use suitable loading securing 6. Do not damage the load 7. Modify your speed to the nature of the load and the road and traffic conditions Effect of weight force Types of lashing Attaching the lashing straps: • Secure in all directions • The load must always be secured, even if you are only driving slowly • Select suitable lashing straps • Check the straps for damage • Lashing straps must not be knotted, squashed or stretched over sharp edges Lashing straps must bear weight with their entire width Monitoring of lashing straps: • Lashing straps must be checked before every use for any flaws and taken out of service if necessary • A check of the ‘discard criteria’ must be carried out at least once a year (by a trained professional) The lashing strap may then need to be disposed of • Lashing straps must be stored clean, dry and well ventilated against the effects of the weather and aggressive substances • Lashing straps must not be dried in the proximity of fire or other hot surfaces (> 100°C) • Maintenance of the lashing straps must only be carried out by the manufacturer Press lashing Angled / diagonal lashing
