30 Good to know: What makes a good electrolyte drink? Glucose: This improves the transport of electrolytes (particularly sodium) from the gut into the blood. Electrolytes (Na+, K+, Cl-): These are excreted in greater quantities during diarrhoea and must be replaced by the electrolyte drink. Buffering agents (bicarbonate, acetate, citrate or propionate): Diarrhoea often leads to blood acidification, also known as metabolic acidosis. Blood acidification is the cause of a lack of appetite for fluids, weakness and immobility associated with diarrhoea. Buffering agents counteract blood acidification. Buffer capacity: This value indicates the extent to which the product can correct existing metabolic acidosis. The SID value should be at least 60 mmol/L in ready-to-feed solutions. The energy content of an electrolyte drink is insufficient for nutrition, as a sick calf has increased energy requirements. It is therefore recommended not to withdraw milk-based feed entirely. ref. no. contents € 1575 1 kg / can 1/12 1576 5 kg / bucket 1 quality for feed Mode of action: The electrolytes it contains compensate for losses caused by diarrhoea, sweating due to heat stress or following transport . The buffer substance it contains regulates the blood pH level. feeding recommendation: • Calves: Dissolve 50 g (2 measuring spoons) of powder in one litre of warm water. Offer at least 2 litres of electrolyte drink twice daily between feeding times • Piglets, lambs, foals: Dissolve 50 g (2 measuring spoons) of powder per litre of warm water and make it available for free access. Product benefits: • Tasty electrolyte drinks • High buffering capacity • No artificial flavours Agrolyt Electrolyte and Buffer Concentrate – Dietary Supplement Purpose: To stabilise water and electrolyte balance in cases of diarrhoea and excessive sweating Type of animal: Calves, piglets, lambs, kids and foals Good to know: Electrolyte drinks containing buffering agents are very important for calves with diarrhoea! Whilst they do not treat the cause of the diarrhoea, they help to stabilise the calf’s water and electrolyte balance and support normal digestion. Practical tips: Give calves with diarrhoea who are not drinking well a Bufferlyt bolus 2–3 times a day. This corrects blood acidosis, and the animals regain their appetite and start drinking milk and electrolyte solutions again. Main ingredients: Glucose, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride Calf – Gut Health
