Thanks to its mobility and efficacy, a pasture fence that conducts electricity in its wires provides a valuable service when setting up fencing and primarily as a protective measure. However, it is by no means intended as a permanent device. These advantages of an electric fence are particularly appreciated within agricultural animal husbandry and when keeping wild animals at bay. The tensioned wires along provide both a mechanical and visual barrier. The best deterrent effect is achieve, however, when several additional wires conduct electricity. Powerful fence devices must be optimally earthed in order to provide full efficacy. Depending on the soil composition, three ground rods are driven into the ground at least a metre deep and at intervals of two to three metres ideally; these will later be connected to one another. If an animal touches the fence, it receives a short electric shock. This is harmless, but so unpleasant that the animal retreats and remembers the obstacle. AKO-Agrartechnik GmbH & Co.
